An device used to measure the insulation resistance of electrical systems and equipment is called a voltage insulation tester, sometimes referred to as an insulation resistance tester or a megohmmeter. By measuring the resistance between conductors and between conductors and ground, as well as applying a high-voltage DC (direct current) test voltage to the insulation, it evaluates the integrity of electrical insulation. Voltage insulation testers are used to evaluate the insulation state of electrical equipment, cables, motors, transformers, generators, and other components in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, telecommunications, construction, and electrical maintenance.
