The advantage of contact adhesives is that they have a high initial strength. They're made of polymers that can adhere to each other in the form of dry sticky films (auto-adhesion). The adhesive must be applied to both surfaces to be bonded and allowed to dry. Coated surfaces bond instantly on contact, so positioning the substrates prior to contact is critical because repositioning is nearly impossible. To ensure thorough contact, the bond is usually pushed or rolled once it has been formed.
