Filling levels of liquids or bulk items in containers, tanks, and silos are monitored with electronic level sensors. Level sensors are used to monitor even critical process conditions such as the emptying of a hydraulic tank or an unintended overspill of a tank. Units for continuous level measuring and point level detection are available. Different measuring principles, such as capacitive, guided wave radar, and hydrostatic level measurement, are available depending on the application. Photoelectric distance sensors or 3D camera systems can be utilised for non-contact level detection. Failures are frequently caused by build-up and wear, especially when mechanical switches are in touch with the medium. There are no mechanical parts or floats in the electronic level sensors.
